Fate

I thought I had the whole thing planned,
Right down to the dice’s roll.
Events, though, made me understand
Nothing’s under my control.

Even when I huff and puff
And boast there’s no way I can fail,
I’m nothing but a piece of fluff
Tossed about by some wild gale.

That’s not to say it’s only me
Who’s subject to the whim of fate;
No one has the strength to free
Themselves when fortune bars the gate.

The difference is that, where I do,
Others don’t believe that’s true.
