Your Face

Nobody’s looked love in the face
Who hasn’t looked in yours;
It’s why all pilgrims follow grace
And leave their native shores.

It holds the key to life’s events
And gives it half a turn,
And those who’ve voiced their discontents
And happy now to burn.

To kiss those lips and brush those cheeks
And gently chuck that chin
Refutes the words an angel speaks
When fools go rushing in.

And, even when I close my eyes,
I see your face – warm, fair and wise.
