Confusion

The key to lasting happiness
Has broken in the lock
And left me staring at the mess
With disbelief and shock.

I knew the chance I’d win was slim,
But never did I think
That sorry fate’s most foolish whim
Would push me to the brink;

I thought I’d have a day at least
Of living in the sun,
But now my hope of that has ceased
And all is said and done.

And so I’m tasked with getting used
To always feeling this confused.
