I turned away and saw the moon
And didn’t think of you
Or how we’d spent the afternoon
The way that lovers do.
Instead, I thought of times gone by
I’d seen the moon that full
And felt as if about to fly,
Pulled upwards by its pull.
I knew our love was at an end;
(You didn’t need to say),
And that we two would never spend
Another day that way.
“The moon is full,” I thought aloud.
You said you knew, but, then, you’re proud.
