And, lying in the vale of night,
I’m empty and aware,
And that which feared the lack of light
Has not a single care.
There was a time it wasn’t so;
I shivered and I shook
To think the sun was sinking low;
I couldn’t bear to look.
But now I’m not afraid to lie
In folds of velvet black;
I’m like a bird that’s learned to fly,
And there’s no going back.
And that which thinks I should do more
I’m wont to ask, “Whatever for?”
