The window’s open just a crack,
And yet the air pours in
As frosty as the night is black
And nibbles at my chin.
I wouldn’t like to have to sleep
On open ground tonight,
But, though aware life’s far from cheap,
I’m managing all right.
I neither know the way it feels
When debtees start to squeeze
Nor throw my purse beneath the wheels
To live the way I please.
But well I know my cushy state
Is subject to the whim of fate.
