At longest last, you’ve come to see
This moment’s up to you;
There’s none to tell you how to be
And, much less, what to do.
You’re on the very utmost brink –
A place to stand alone –
And none could blame you if you sink
As surely as a stone.
And yet you might – just might! – take flight
And soar with outstretched wings
Above a world of dark and light
And holler, “Look! No strings!”
And that would be the best of all
Although it means a longer fall.
