Mind Work

There’s no hard toil from which you shy away;
You’ll work for days on end at chopping wood
And till the fields comprised of bone-hard clay
And, all the while, maintain that it’s all good.

Yet, when it comes to working on your mind
To find out why you feel the way you do,
You’d rather leave the exercise behind
And make as if it’s meaningless to you.

And yet it touches you in many ways;
You’re nervous as that time you took a test
For which you hadn’t learned but chose to laze
And every answer needed to be guessed.

It’s true it doesn’t matter in the end.
Till then, though, what about the time you’ll spend?
