Your purpose isn’t given you at birth;
It stems from all you meet along the way:
The parent who promotes your true self-worth,
The sibling who’s intent to lead astray;
The teacher who instils a love of books,
The colleague eaten up with sullen spite
Who tries to spoil your day with haughty looks
And doesn’t stop until they win the fight.
And yet, for all that others change its form,
It’s up to you to serve your purpose well:
Protect it from the brunt of every storm
And keep it safe from jealous personnel.
It isn’t that your purpose brings results,
And yet it’s that in which your mind exults.
