Spirit

And every step you take along the way
Comes after one that’s after one before,
And so on back until that shining day
You crossed the threshold of your mother’s door.

At times, you’re all alone and see in this
A symbol of the friends you’ve been denied;
At others, though, you sense the boundless bliss
Of walking with another at your side.

Yet, all the while, you can’t not but be you;
That’s something none can manage in your stead,
So love yourself and everything you do
And know each moment’s like a watershed.

And, if you fall like rain to left or right,
There’s nothing standing in your way, tonight.
