Pessimism

It’s hard for you to say you’re glad
Or even flash a smile;
A part of you needs must be sad,
Or life’s not worth the while.

You think that, if you laugh or grin,
You’ll let the others know
That you’re not in the pain you’re in,
And that just isn’t so.

And yet that’s just a silly trait
That doesn’t mean that much;
It’s not as if you’re met with hate,
So why the mental crutch?

Enjoy the time that’s given you;
You know you’ve always wanted to.
