Control

There’s nothing going on inside my mind;
This must be what it’s like to be deceased.
Of all the instances of humankind,
My case in point’s the one which matters least.

And, worst of all, this picture’s nothing new;
It’s been like this throughout my many days;
In spite of anything I make or do,
I’ve always just been trapped inside life’s maze.

And yet it’s but a question of degree:
This stillness could be seen as something good,
And my great fortune’s that it’s come to me
Without the need its source be understood.

It’s ill-advised to set sail in a sieve
Unless you can control the narrative.
