There’s nothing old about the soul;
Everything is fresh and new.
As recent as the youngest foal,
It sparkles in the morning dew.
It opens up to greet the sun
Like an early buttercup
And runs along now day’s begun
In the pawprints of a pup.
And, when the night falls on the land,
Soul’s the star which comes out first.
And it’s the milk that’s close to hand
To quench the newborn baby’s thirst.
And soul’s the bond which we two share,
As key to life as love and air.
