Our Children

There’s terror on the news each night;
It can’t be said too often:
We’ve got to raise our children right,
Or else they’ll only soften.

We’ll gladly send them off to war;
There’s no more noble calling.
And, though they’ll only get what for,
We’ll catch them while they’re falling.

And then we’ll never let them go
But train them in our fashion;
It’s not as if they need to know
The meaning of compassion.

The world belongs to those who hate;
Let’s not betray our children’s fate.
