You wouldn’t think to look at me –
You mightn’t even guess –
But, once, I sat on Satan’s knee
And bargained for success.
I offered him all kinds of things
To bring about my goal,
But, in the end, he shook his wings
And said, “I want your soul.”
I didn’t scream at his demand
But smiled at him, instead.
And, standing up, I shook his hand
And, while departing, said,
“My soul’s not mine to give away;
It’s who I am, both night and day.”
