Sea-Change

“Tell me, have you ever seen
The future or the past?”
Inquired the thoughtful pirate queen
And tied me to the mast.

“Yeh, sure,” I said, as one resigned,
And nodded fore and aft;
“One’s up ahead, and one’s behind.”
At that, the queen half-laughed.

“To me,” she said, “time’s like the sea;
It’s everywhere and now.”
With that, she turned her back on me
And went up to the bow.

And, just before she left the ship,
She gave her hat a farewell tip.
