Child of God

Child of God, the godly child in me
Extends the warmest greetings unto you,
But, though it seems you’ve hardly come to be,
You’ve been around as long as I have, too.

As someone who the sun has fondly kissed,
You’re every bit a treasure vast and dear.
You’re like an item standing on God’s list,
The other half of heaven’s perfect sphere.

I see the light that’s shining in your eyes
As does one star another all through space.
That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise
I’m overjoyed to look you in the face.

And, even if you drench yourself in sin,
That can’t affect the child you’ve always been.
