Cassandra

I thought that, if I showed my hand,
It might resolve the matter.
My boss, though, let me understand
My words were idle chatter.

I must admit I felt aggrieved
Like that renowned clairvoyant
Who told the truth, but none believed,
Which made her less than buoyant.

But, not to act like some rude youth,
I swallowed the derision.
If someone won’t accept the truth,
Then that’s their own decision.

It doesn’t mean that I should lie
But practise smiling in reply.
