Detachment

Circumstance presented me
The chance to lend a hand,
But I still hadn’t learned to see
So didn’t understand.

I turned around and walked away
And left the one in need.
It’s taken me until today
To comprehend my deed.

I saw myself as set apart –
Divided from the rest,
And so I kept a hardened heart
Confined within my chest.

The being everybody shares
Is why it’s meet that each one cares.
