It’s nothing that you need to see;
It’s neither wise nor deep,
But, more and more, it seems to me
That life’s a waste of sleep.
I faff around from day to day
And either win or lose,
Not that it matters anyway
Since neither do I choose.
Yet, when I lay me down to rest
And slip down slumber’s slope,
I see a world which God has blessed,
That’s full of love and hope –
To the extent that, when I wake,
I feel I’ve made a huge mistake.
