Without my even trying,
My peace of mind breaks down;
My inner light starts dying
And wishes it could drown.
I’m crushed by a sensation –
An all-consuming lack,
And sadness and frustration
Conspire behind my back.
I should say in all fairness
There’s no one else to blame;
Forgetting I’m awareness
Would douse the brightest flame.
And yet, when I remember,
That fans its deathless ember.
