Throughout my life, I’ve sought the roof
Of dwellings safe and warm
But only found that none were proof
Against the mildest storm.
And so I wondered like a waif
To whom all doors are closed
And never once felt warm and safe
But naked and exposed.
Then, on the road to journey’s end,
I met a man who said,
“It’s no bad thing to have no friend;
Befriend yourself, instead.”
Now I no longer seek to hide;
I know it’s safe and warm inside.
