Departure

And what you did for me was more
Than anyone had ever done,
And so I let you glimpse my core,
Which I’d kept hidden from the sun.

And yet the sight made you afraid,
And, just as fast, you went away,
Which showed the huge mistake I’d made
And left my world in disarray.

You longed to live a happy life
And didn’t need a one like me,
Who filled their days with inner strife
And nights with dreams of being free.

Now time has passed and I’ve moved on.
In spite of which, though, you’re still gone.
