In conversation with a youth
Who said, “But that’s obscure!”,
I almost said, “But it’s the truth!”
But chose to say no more.
It wasn’t that the youth was dull
Which led me to refrain;
It made no sense to numb his skull
With truth which wasn’t plain.
And so I’ve set myself the task
Of opening to view
The face that’s hidden by the mask,
So others see it, too.
And, whether I succeed or not,
I’ll give it everything I’ve got.
