Solitude

If no one’s standing at my side,
Assume there’s no one in my life,
For, if had myself a bride,
She’d now be with me as my wife.

It isn’t that I’ve counted out
The prospect of a partnership,
But neither do I look about
For one to join me at the hip.

I neither want or need a spouse
Nor fear I’ll always be alone;
I’m living in a happy house,
Regardless if I’m on my own.

By which it’s easy to conclude
I feel at home in solitude.
