Resilience

And, breaking our embrace,
I raised my gentle hand
And stroked your gentler face,
As water smoothes the land.

And then I went my way
And faded in the night.
Had you asked me to stay,
I would have done, all right.

But there’s no turning back;
Things simply fall apart.
Though nothing do we lack,
That’s bound to break the heart.

But, with a newfound friend,
I feel mine’s on the mend.
