My Father

The very sky broke down and cried,
The day you went away;
That such a one as you had died
Hurt more than words can say.

I thought you’d always be around
And keep watch over me,
But now you’re tucked up in the ground,
As safe as safe can be.

And yet, within things’ greater scheme,
There’s neither life nor death,
For both are moments in a dream,
As fleeting as a breath.

So walk with me as years before,
And we’ll unlock life’s golden store.
