I’m in a house beside the sea,
Where foam-capped breakers pound,
And, such is life, apart from me,
There’s no one else around.
It’s not that I’m some shy recluse
Who seeks a place to hide;
I simply fail to see the use
In turning back the tide.
And, if a one should come along
Who stays forevermore,
I’ll lean in close to hear their song
While walking on the shore.
And yet, for all life’s many things,
I only need one pair of wings.
