The Poet

I’ve read your work so many times
Yet still not sucked the goodness out –
Your simple words and easy rhymes
Are what great writing’s all about.

And, though I know that there are those
Who’re bound to say they disagree,
Not everybody likes a rose
Or sits beneath a shady tree.

But those who do are rays of light,
Illuminating all around,
And it’s for them you’re known to write
And give to life its sweetest sound.

Though blizzards howl and tempests rage,
You set down peace on every page.
