Two Swans

A pair of swans fly overhead
And make me think of you.
Although our love is long since dead,
It once made one of two.

And, on the day we made our vows
To formalise our bond,
A pair appeared beneath the boughs
That overhung the pond.

But where they’re now, I couldn’t say –
Not flying over me!
For everything we said that day
Has long since ceased to be.

Though you have learnt to love once more,
I keep a padlock on my door.
