Secrecy

I could have said so much to you
But didn’t make a sound.
And all because – as well I knew –
You’d blabber it around.

If I desired what I hold dear
Were known by one and all,
I wouldn’t breathe it in your ear
But write it on the wall.

And yet that means I keep inside
Both fearfulness and doubt,
Despite the fact that I can’t hide
Since, one day, you’ll find out.

And so I might as well have shared,
And yet it’s not as if you cared.
