Career

It’s not enough to want to win;
You have to get the breaks
And tolerate the critics’ din
At all your slight mistakes.

You have to be a cut above
And work both night and day
And come to terms with all the “love”
Admirers send your way.

And, when the train of taste moves on
And leaves you far behind,
You have to say you’re glad it’s gone
And swear that you don’t mind.

And, even if you manage it,
Eternity won’t care one bit.
