I could have had a pleasant life,
As Adam did with Eve,
But, what with all the woeful strife,
I thought it best to leave.
I took up lodging in a cave
Despite the cold and damp,
And it was so much like a grave
I never lit a lamp.
That’s how I could have spent my days
And laid me down to rot,
But something made me change my ways;
I’m still not certain what.
But, stepping out, the clouds above
Were lit up by the light of love.
