Sleep (3)

Of all the times I’ve nodded off,
I’ve never slept this well –
Not lying in a cattle trough
Or on the road to hell.

Of course it helped that I was tired
From building me a wall,
But, given how my brain is wired,
I hardly sleep at all.

I lie awake and think about
The bad mistakes I’ve made
And contemplate the very doubt
Of which I’m so afraid.

But not this time – this time, I slept
As one whose mind is cleanly swept.
