And did you walk the thousand miles
That brought me to your door?
And did you meet your frowns with smiles
And sweep and mop the floor?
Then now you’d better understand
And watch me walking out
And raise your arm and wave your hand
And neither scream nor shout.
But being gentle’s not your way;
You tear the world apart,
And so I’m off to greet the day
When you won’t harm my heart.
And, though we’ll always be as one,
Our fellowship is said and done.
