And holding someone in your arms
Is beautiful, I know.
And yet, for all a hug’s sweet charms,
It leads to letting go.
I wish that didn’t have to be –
That we could just embrace –
A single wave upon the sea
That drifts through time and space.
And yet we’re lucky to have had
A thing we both shall miss;
A parting isn’t only sad
As evidenced by this:
Our eyes are peering down the line
To when our arms shall next entwine.

During the writing of this sonnet, I was informed by the following statement from one of the greatest philosophers in the history of humankind:
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” – Winnie the Pooh.
