Discombobulation

I’m trying hard to understand
The dimness of the lights
Who spurned the chance to hold your hand
Through all your lonely nights.

They must have thought that it was you –
That you were too in need –
So gladly left you making do
With insufficient feed.

But they could not have been more wrong;
You shouldn’t go without!
So here I am, your whole life long,
To leave you in no doubt:

As long as I’m still flesh and bone,
You’ll never need to sleep alone.
