You and Me

And, when I’m conscious of the one
That I’ve amounted to,
The greatest thing of all I’ve done
Is lying next to you.

You’re like the very topmost peak
In mankind’s mountain range,
And fools fall silent when you speak
And listen for a change.

And yet I know you’re flesh and blood
And need a helping hand
When there appears a feeling flood
That makes to drown your land.

And well I know that you’ll take mine
When sinking in my mental brine.
