Hopelessness

I’ve had the hope knocked out of me
And yet feel no despair.
Like one denied both land and sea,
I’ve taken to the air.

And all I see from up above
Is perfect, clean and new,
And, as the sun looks down in love,
It sparkles in the dew.

Up here, I’m one with all the birds
And equal to the clouds,
And, all around, I hear bright words
That hum in happy crowds.

To think I thought I’d never cope
Without the slightest bit of hope!
