And yesterday was strange, indeed –
The strangest yet, I’d say,
For, though I went at normal speed,
I walked beside the way

And stumbled over rocks and stones,
And branches cut my face,
And, feeling weary in my bones,
I longed to leave that place.

Yet, though I kept on keeping on,
I seemed to get nowhere,
And not until the light was gone
Did I escape from there.

And, back upon the way at last,
I fell and started sleeping fast.
