Separation

I finished off the dish you’d made;
It tasted very good.
I really wish you could have stayed
But saw you never would.

You said that we’d gone much too fast,
Or you were much too slow.
I though our love was built to last;
I guess it wasn’t, though.

And yet my heart’s not torn in two,
And I don’t weep or wail.
And that although my love for you
Has swallowed its own tail.

But, truth to tell, I love you still,
And, what is more, I always will.
