When All Things Come to Pass

When All Things Come to Pass

Come one and come all,
The great and the small,
Lay hands on that old gospel plough.
Come all and come one,
Each daughter and son,
The time all things pass is now.

Once I talked up history –
History had it all – and how!
Thus I missed the mystery,
The mystery that is here and now.
I was always braying
Like some golden ass
Without once conveying
When all things come to pass.

Then I eyed tomorrow –
Tomorrow was my lucky day,
Since I hoped my sorrow,
My sorrow would just fade away.
Then I saw the lotus
In the looking glass
And began to notice
When all things come to pass.

When the mountains sway,
And the oceans play,
And the forests pray en masse,
Then we’ll beat the drum
With a sugarplum,
When all things come to pass.

Still I often wonder,
Wonder what my purpose is.
Should I steal God’s thunder
Or thunder like that boy of his?
Or should I keep yelling,
“Where there’s muck, there’s brass”?
There’s no way of telling,
When all things come to pass.

When good things come to pass,
And bad things come to pass.
When all things come to pass.
